Glycolysis, the metabolic pathway for sugar breakdown, occurs in the intracellular fluid (cytosol) – a well-known fact. Michael Bölker and two of his PhD students now discovered sugar catabolizing enzymes known from glycolysis in certain cell organelles, the peroxisomes. They present their surprising finding in the recent edition of Nature. Click here for more information (in German).
